For those that are either too young, weren't hip to it or some other miscellaneous excuse, these Echo Underground Airplay MixTAPES were about as highly anticipated as your new favorite album. I mean, they had gems that were exclusive, rare, hard to find and just straight up nasty! Why I chose #5 for today's mixtape, I dunno, b/c each one is as dope as the next, but I guess I saw this one first lol. Major shouts to Nick Wiz, Ran Reed, Natural Elements, DJ Eclipse, Shabaam Sahdeeq and the countless other underground MCs who made a huge impact on my taste for music through these tapes. The Rare 90s Section of this site is almost embodied in these types of mixes, and soon enough, my own version will out for everyone to listen. My hope is that with the track selection, still exclusive nature of a few of the joints and the co-signs on there, it'll have the same replay value for all you fans of true 90s boombap hip-hop. Great marketing by Ecko at the time. I don't know what was better the tape or the T-shirt you brought to get the tape, either way it was a win.

I lost this tape but that Sexy song was my jam when I lived in Jersey before I moved back to Cali. Mark Ecko (Echo) was definitely trying to turn heads onto great undrground lyricist...thanks for the post...props.
