Hydra Beats Collection: Godfather Don x Nick Wiz x The Beatnuts x A Kid Called Roots x Mike Heron x E-Boogie x The Unsociables

I can't afford the hours it'll take to do a write-up for each of these, so let's get right into it, shall we? Volume 1 of Hydra Beat's Instrumental Series, "The Unsociables - Hydra Beats Vol.1" It was released around 1997, on Hydra Entertainment. It was the 1st of 14 dope releases!

2nd up is a producer named, E-Boogie. E-Boogie's Hydra Beats Vol.2 has 12 nice joints on it. He did production for Guru & Estelle, amongst others. Beyond that, I don't have much information. There is a nice mix of downtempo joints, with a mix of some dark shit & some dope breaks thrown in.

The 3rd release, Godfather Don's Hydra Beats Vol.3, is the 1st of 4 featuring his production. For those that have heard Godfather Don's beats, you know not to be disappointed that he's repeated so often. I'm already getting tired of writing like this though lol. Let's go...

4th up is A Kid Named Roots' Hydra Beats Vol.4. If you don't recognize the name, you are about to get real familiar with his production, as he contributes a total of 3 EPs to this series. He's also produced joints for Sadat X, Talib Kweli, Screwball, Canibus and a few others. Check it out.

The Beatnuts' Hydra Beats Vol.5 probably represents the most known of all the names in this series of Instrumental releases. It's got 12 solid joints, some of which you may have never heard before. They are not their stand out, mainstream tracks ... definitely cop this and give it a quick listen. Enjoy

The 6th issue is DJ Fusion & The Ghetto Professionals' Hydra Beats Vol.6. The Ghetto Pros produced tracks for Fat Joe, Noreaga, Kool G Rap, Mobb Deep, Black Attack and were influential in the Rawkus days. While you won't find those tracks on this release, what you will find are 10 head noddin beats, don't sleep.

The 2nd in the series of Godfather Don's production, this is Godfather Don's Hydra Beats Vol.7. Probably not the best of his production on this EP, it's still got some nice usages of the piano and some nice rhythms. I cop everything Godfather Don did, so it's nothing for me to enjoy this one, too. Recognize anything?

This is their Anniversary release, Hydra Beats Vol.8 - its got joints from Godfather Don, Ghetto Pros, Sean C & The Beatnuts. 19 total beats, definitely wanna enjoy this one! I've got a freestyle of Invincible rockin over The Beatnuts' Who Want It With Me - dope ish from the 90s lol.

2/3, this is A Kid Called Roots' Hydra Beats Vol.9. Its got a track called "Pseudo Muff Daddy" on there lol. What was the kid thinkin, right? Nontheless, there are 10 more joints very much worthy of your ears and attention. I would not be mad if any of you took some of the beats in this series and made an album.

My eyes are starting to get tired as fuck lol. This is Mike Heron's Hydra Beats Vol.10. For those that don't know the name, he produced hella joints for Screwball, Big L, Cormega & a half dozen other big names out in Queens. As part of the Ghetto Pros, you can expect more of the same dope shit.

3/4, this is Godfather Don's Hydra Beats Vol.11. A few of the beats sound a bit unfinished. They aren't great, they aren't bad ... just not quite what I remember. I guess ya gotta stick to his 12" releases, but these are still solid too. Just not up to par with what you normally hear from Don.

This is the winner right here. Nick Wiz is one of my favorite producers, period. He's done some of my fav tracks to come out of the 90s. Nick Wiz's Hydra Beats Vol.12 has beats that some artists try to record to, but I'm not sure if they ever officially came out. He's recently done tracks with Rakim, OC and lots more.

3/3, we are almost finished with the series. This is A Kid Called Roots' Hydra Beats Vol.13. It closes out his production quite interestingly. You'll know what I mean when you check it, but each track is named after a different person. First is called "Irv Gotti," I'll say no more! Check it.

4/4, 14/14 - rejoice I made it! Godfather Don's Hydra Beats Vol.14 is the last in this series. There were a few spinoffs, but this closes it out. 14 vols, 10-12 beats in each, thats a lot of heat you may have never heard before. Get to recording, remixing, or just enjoying - whatever you crazy kids do with all this music lol. Peace.

"Slate" off of the Nick Wiz one was used for Black Sun - "Quarter To Midnight". I've been looking for that song(not instrumental) since I lost the Bobbito tape I had it on. So, like 13-14 years I've been searching.
Post that and I'll be impressed to say the least.;)
